Angie Douthit - WBT Bass Pro
Lake Okeechobee’s water level is around 13 ft. above sea level. The crappie bite has been more
consistent for the month December and will continue to pick as we ease on into the upcoming winter
months.
Although the month of November was very slow for crappie a few could be found and caught
during the latter part of the month using live minnows within the Kissimmee river, deeper holes located
in the lake, slews, ditches and some grass lines mixed with lily pads. A great jig to try for crappie if live
minnows is not your choice is Gene Larew’s, Bobby Garland’s 2” baby shad in colors bluegrass and
electric chicken; a 2”or 3” Slab Slay’r in colors orange/chartreuse/silver and the 2” hyper grubs in
chartreuse silver, all tipped with a 1/8 oz. jig head, depending on wind conditions.
Areas that are known
for catching some crappie is the Belle Glade/Pahokee area around the tree islands and Pahokee rocks on
the south-east end; dynamite holes around Clewiston and South Bay area. On the North-end try the
Kissimmee river, Taylor creek all the way towards J&S; Buckhead Ridge to the 3rd point areas. Bass
fishing continues to be very good especially with the starting of the major spawn time. Varieties of ways
that have been producing are the top water; flipping/pitching; swim baits and some rattle trap
techniques. We are fortunate here on the big O to experience a long bass spawn, which kicks off
normally within the latter part of October which can extend on into the month of May. With this these
type conditions during this time frame; we experience both pre and post spawn bass at the same time.
Shallow water for bass fishing continues to give up a consistent and quality bite unless the weather is
extremely cold, and then search for nearby deeper water, and then move up to the shallows as the day
continues to warm up.
When fishing in the shallows a swim bait, big worm, spinner bait and rattle trap
seem can draw strikes. Good colors to use for plastics are junebug; red shad; green pumpkin and
watermelon red. Swim bait colors to try are bull frog and gold digger. The trusty old silver/blue back
and chartreuse/black back 3/8 oz. rattle trap and a 1/4 or 3/8 oz. spinner bait rigged with either an all
white skirt or white/chartreuse, depending on water clarity have all been working.
Some great plastic
lures to check out before heading the water are Gene Larew soft plastics. Larew is the original salt-
impregnated lure makers and they’ve got a great line of products such as the 12”El Salto Grande worm;
6” Hawg Craw; new 2011 pan fish lures; sinking sluggers; frogs and etc. Just log onto
www.genelarew.com and give Eli or Diane a call, tell them Capt. Angie sent you, place your order and
have it delivered in time for your next trip out on the big O. Places to try for catching bass the next time
you’re out on Okeechobee if launching at the South end are: around Kreamer Island such as inside
Pelican Bay; Horse Island and on down into the Grassy and Buzzard Roost area; both East and West sides
of Rita Island; East and West Wall area(s); Observation Shoal area(s) and some parts of the Monkey Box.
On the North side of Okeechobee try: Kings Bar; 1st point to 3rd point and beyond; J&S; Little Grassy and
Dyess Ditch area(s). This is the time of year that Lake Okeechobee experiences extra boat activity on the
water, with that said, exercise safe boating operations at all times and be respectful and courteous to
your fellow boaters.
For guide trip bookings on beautiful Lake Okeechobee for bass or pan fish, give Capt. Angie a call at

MegaStrike and Trilene.
As always, be safe, have fun and be courteous to your fellow boaters !!

WBT Tour Facts:
Angie Douthit started off on the Women's Bass Tour with a Top 6 showing. After leading day 1 of the competition with the heaviest single day weight of the entire event, she fought rough weather and high winds to still make her mark. Her goal is to attain the esteem position of being AOY on the WBT's 2008 season. The AOY from the WBT will also qualify for the Bassmaster Classic for 2008.
Douthit said her biggest accomplishment to date was winning a $50,000 paycheck and the ability to create her own television show pilot. Douthit won these items when she appeared on a Canadian reality show, called “Last Cull”, featuring 50 competing anglers .
About Us!
Professional Guide, Angie Douthit, when not traveling on Tour,
she is guiding anglers on the waters of Lake Okeechobee. World famous for the quality of the bass fishing, Okeechobee is an expanse of water covering 735 square miles. When most anglers see this small ocean for the first time, they are immediately notice that it all looks the same. Needless to say, that is not true in the case of the huge bass that ply the waters in search of golden shiners or other baits. The fish select certain areas of the lake, based on season and weather conditions. In order to have the trip of a lifetime, a professional guide can save you days of wandering around just looking for that secret area.
Angie loves the sport of bass fishing and even more, loves to help others to learn how much fun it can be. Whether its artificial lures or live-bait used, Angie will see to it that you have a great day on the water. While on the waters of Lake Okeechobee you will also see the wildlife that makes the trip a special memory.
As a current touring professional angler and Lake Okeechobee guide, sponsors play a very important role, without them I could not enjoy doing what I love most, which is FISHING. My sponsors include: Mercury Marine, Motor Guide, Bob's Hi-Performance Machine Shop; Bass Pro Shops; Gene Larew Soft Plastics; Rapala; Navionics; Mega Strike; Trilene; Sure Life and Real Magic.
